2009 R-30 versus 2007 R-20
Not wanting to in any way change or alter the classic Retro style of our R Models, the 2009 R-30 looks in appearance almost identical to the 2007 R-20. However, technically there are significant differences and improvements. Here is a look at what is new and frankly better.
- The R-30 has a 3000-Watt, three-phase, 60-Volt, Brushless Hub Motor built on a 10 Inch Rim and sports 10 Inch X 3.5, 6 ply DOT tires.
- The new motor is capable of reaching a maximum speed of approximately 45 MPH (72 KPH) but with superior torque and climbing ability. It has been kicked up from 2500-Watts to 3000-Watts.
- By popular demand and to make it easier to replace plastic parts, the 2009 Model R-30 (as well as the Z-30) will only be available in two colors: Metallic Red or Metallic Blue. See photos of both colors at the bottom of this page.
- The body and frame of the R-30 is much better in both quality and fit and will be assembled with 99% stainless steel nuts, bolts, washers and screws.
- The floorboard will have an aluminum plated cover over the area where the feet go and there will be thick floor rugs included as a fashion accessory.
- The range of the bike remains roughly the same but may be reduced indistinctly if the motorcycle is used at full speed at all times as a result of a more powerful motor. Nonetheless, it should still exceed a 30-mile range at normal cruising speeds when used with fully charged good working batteries.*
- The totally new controller is a Kelly Controller, specifically and expressly designed and modified for the R-30, has a built-in overheat preventer which reduces the amperage under extreme conditions. This will eliminate the need for cooling fans thus increasing reliability. The Kelly Controller for the R-30 or Z-30 retails for $350.00 (plus shipping and handling) and can be purchased through EVTAMERICA.
Note: The Kelly Controller for the R-30 or Z-30 retails for $350.00 (plus shipping and handling) and can be purchased through EVTAMERICA for anyone that wishes to purchase this specific controller individually.
- The R-30 will no longer have an alarm or a kick stand on-and-off relay which proved to be unreliable in our first production and became a common problem as a result of shipping. Our top priority is most definitely RELIABILITY. The Kill Switch will remain as a safety feature. The alarm will be replaced with a stainless steel disc brake lock included.
- A windshield assembly kit and a trunk assembly kit are offered as options and separately priced.
- The 2009 R-30 model has different but superior heavy duty rear air shock absorbers and significantly stronger front shock absorbers that provide a smoother ride.
- The front and rear coated disc brakes are of much better quality and fit; they are also DOT compliant.
- We have graduated to an advanced DC to DC Converter (60V to 12V) with an inline fuse for added safety and able to handle higher peak current.
- The new extra tough durable harness installed is made to European standards, shielded for ultrasound frequencies; simplified for functionality and better color coded to insure continuity and to facilitate maintenance.
- The dash now contains a speedometer/odometer with both MPH and KPH with European standards of accuracy which are (The displayed speed-Actual Speed) X 1% +4km. The needle will be a fiber optics glowing needle.
- The R-30 comes with the much awaited SmartSpark Battery Equalizer (made in the USA) for 60V with LED lights, which maintains the batteries precisely balanced both during charging and discharging thereby increasing significantly the batteries? life. It is also able to perceive the individual condition of each battery and therefore can sense and detect if any one battery is not functioning properly. The SmartSpark Equalizer for 60-Volts retails for $219.00 plus shipping and handling and can be purchased through EVTAMERICA.
Note: The SmartSpark Equalizer for 60-Volts retails for $219.00 plus shipping and handling and can be purchased through EVTAMERICA for anyone that wishes to purchase this specific controller individually.
- The rest of the R-30 will be much the same in appearance, though it now has more clearance under the frame and battery box of the motorcycle due to the new shocks. The R-30 still has the 5 X 12V 35AH sealed lead acid battery pack as well as DOT lights throughout.
- We are equipping all our 2009 EVTAMERICA models with an improved Soneil International Limited of Canada automatic 60V charger. The Soneil Charger (60V/5A LAB Charger Mod. No: 6010SR SONEIL).
Note: The Soneil Charger for any R or Z models retails for $350.00 (plus shipping and handling) and can be purchased through EVTAMERICA for anyone that wishes to purchase this specific charger individually.
* Range will vary depending on the weight of the rider/s, terrain, wind resistance and road conditions. Example: a run on a relatively flat road with few stops and a 180lb rider will get much better range than a hilly road with multiple stops, and a 280lb rider. Range is in direct proportion to consumption of energy. The slower you drive the further you will go. Stop and go with full acceleration after each stop may cut the range by as much as fifty percent. Just like cars have better mileage on the highway and less in city driving, the same happens with an electric vehicle. Its all about energy consumption.
EVTAMERICA unveils its new and powerful retro model, the 2009 R-30. Its here and you can buy it NOW!

NOTE OF INTEREST
Seattle City Light: Conservation | Frequently Asked Question...
A kilowatt-hour (kWh) is one thousand watts used for one hour. Just think if you have ten 100-watt light bulbs (ten x 100 = 1,000) burning for one hour, that is one kWh; and Seattle City Light would charge you about 7.93 cents for those 1,000 watts used during that hour.
